KEDAULATAN ALLAH DAN KRISIS KEPEMIMPINAN GEREJA: RELEVANSI THEOLOGIA JOHN CALVIN

Abstract

The current crisis in church leadership is one of the serious challenges hindering the spiritual growth of congregations and the church’s witness in the world. This phenomenon is characterized by moral decline, abuse of power, a pragmatic orientation, and the loss of a Christ-centered spiritual vision. This article aims to examine the relevance of John Calvin’s theology of God’s sovereignty in addressing this leadership crisis. Using content analysis of Calvin’s thought, this paper highlights how the doctrine of Soli Deo Gloria places God at the center of all aspects of church life and leadership. The findings indicate that true church leaders must live under God’s sovereignty, lead with integrity and humility, and regard God’s Word as the highest authority. Calvin’s theology provides the foundation for the formation of theocentric leadership oriented toward service and the transformation of the congregation, rather than personal power. Thus, the restoration of church leadership must begin with the awareness that Christ is the Head of the Church and the source of all spiritual authority.
